The Thousand Island region consists of approximately 1800 islands beginning at Lake Ontario and running down the St. Lawrence river nearly fifty miles along the Northern New York boarder with Canada. It has long been a popular resort and vacation region of the rich and famous and is dotted with castles and grand Cottages from the Gilded Age including the famous Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay built by Hotel baron George Karl Boldt of New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria.
